[sneak preview: nanny mcphee] 12:08 AM

review-nannymcphee.jpg

Horrible? No. But for every positive step forward, there is another step backward. Great art direction is hampered by poor costume design, etc. The movie does score one major point however, and that is seeing Angela Lansbury covered in cake saying the word "incest."

I think this may also be the first children's movie that has a mortician as the lead character.

Nevertheless, for all its flaws the premiere did come with free passes to Universal. Since it was a rainy saturday we walked onto everything and the studio tour got to drive down Wisteria Lane (the front yards are so tiny, one wonders why Gabrielle needed a lawn boy to begin with).

Comments

In the preview, the film stock looks so strange- like a cross between the Zapruder film and an old episode of Benny Hill. Much creepier than that hair growing out of her wart.
What's up with that?

Angela Lansbury saying "incest"??? BEAUTIFUL!

That may just top Betty White's indecent utterance from, I think, Lake Placid.

Hey Carlos,

I did post about BM way back when it was in limited release and I saw it, and frankly I don't know that I'd give it an A+. A+ for Heath and Michelle? Yes. A+ for Ang Lee visual storytelling? Yes. A+ for the movie? No. I really wish the film had been a love story, and this is an opinion that divides many of my friends, but I think the film is more about mutual self-loathing than love. For everyone who seems to be rallying about the film proclaiming it a great depiction of love without borders, I see a film about the self-hatred, doubt, and confusion most gay people pass through in thier lives. It's a great film about that, I'm just confused (yet delighted) so many people can view the film in so many different lights - and apparently the Hollywood Foreign Press agrees.
