May 31, 2007[summer roadshow: south to north] 1:01 PM![]() It rained our entire trip to Houston, and we loved it. Then it rained most of our drive North, which we didn't love so much. We stopped over for a night at our friend Jill & Greg's house in Nashville. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I actually really loved it. They lived in an adorable restored craftsman in the gayborhood (it exists!), which had a great dog park and lots of cute houses to walk by. After an obligatory jaunt downtown to a honkeytonk and music row, we went to the Lipstick Lounge, which despite its name isn't just for lesbians. It was quite the cross section of people, and when we walked in all eyes turned to us in such a manner that can only happen in a small community with a limited dating pool. Jill and Greg have two cats, who Murphy was terrified of for no real reason at all. He spent the majority of the time sitting in my lap, in my arms, or playing in the front yard (white picket fence!!). After a leisurely morning and a good long walk before the car ride we made our way north toward Boy's hometown of Slippery Rock, PA which is akin to Stars Hollow meets Northern Exposure. Let me tell you about driving north through Kentucky and Ohio: ick. There's a reason Kentucky rhymes with yucky, and there's a reason that Ohio had an entire bizarro episode of 30 Rock dedicated to it. Columbus and Cincinatti have the most idiotic traffic congestion imaginable, with seemingly no purpose or cause. Thanks to Ohio, we got into PA late, late, late, and promptly crashed. So we can have more space, the in-laws have set up their camper for us to stay in. It's super-comfortable, and you get to feel a little bit like a rockstar with a tourbus. We're hanging here with Boy's Dad, step-mom and step-brother until monday, at which point we'll make our way to Philly. Roadshow Coming Attractions: |
