[summer roadshow: california to texas] 6:50 AM

We left LA around 7am on wednesday and beat most outbound traffic quite handily. It was about 20 minutes until Murphy, the motion-sickness-prone puppy, barfed in the back. This was expected, but also unfortunate, since he puked up his motion sickness pill that had yet to fully digest.

The most boring part of a trip for me is the initial leaving town part, since you do that part most often and it's more familiar than fun. You want the open road, and you get Rancho Cucamonga.

All the way to Houston

Depending on where you're driving, the open road can be a bummer, too. Take for example Arizona, the brown wasteland. And New Mexico, the brown and red wasteland. I'd feared the 8 hours drive through West Texas would be painful nothingness, but at least it was mostly green nothingness with a speed limit of 80 mph.

We spent the first night in Las Cruces, NM where we watched the finale of Lost, which was better than the finale for Heroes. Which is very odd, since the shows had reversed quality all season. (Lost started strong then tanked, while Heroes began in the dumps and did the uphill climb to goodness).

We hit a storm system outside of San Antonio that was more rain then I've seen in a very long time. I'd say driving through it was akin to navigating a submarine during a tsunami.

As part of her graduation present, my sister and her boyfriend are in the Bahamas, so my parents are watching her chihuahua Winston. He is a crack-puppy, half Murphy's size who insists on antagonizing him. Ever since he realized he's along for the ride, Murph's been a good little trooper. He'll just sit on the couch and a look at things and chew on his bones, and Winston will come up and smack him in the face. Apparently he has never heard of karma.

murphy, winston, and me

My sister and Alex arrive tonight, and after two years of missed connections, she'll finally meet Boy. Boy, who has in one day upgraded my parents to a 42 inch plasma TV, wireless internet, and probably a new cell plan.
