[this the season] 3:03 PM

The Fall TV season is underway, so lets take a look back at what I religiously TiVO'd last year, and what I plan on watching this year...

1. Battlestar Galactica
The extended season had a few speed bumps (Black Market, anyone?), but its still the smartest, most accurate reflection of our society and culture - even if its set in space.

2. Veronica Mars
Season two was a little more convoluted than season one, but it was also stronger, tenser, and more engrossing. The best show on network television.

3. The West Wing
After five years both The West Wing and ER had been run into the ground. Who knew John Wells had such a resurrection in him? While ER continues to flounder, West Wing went out on a high note it hadn't seen in 4 years.

4. The Office
I usually describe single camera comedys as shows that I find funny but don't laugh out loud at. That is a lie. I laugh out loud frequently when watching The Office. Best Comedy indeed.

5. Law & Order SVU
I like seeing who raped who how, and I like seeing Chris Meloni get angry.

6. House
Personally, I think anyone with access to wikipedia and webMD can write an episode of House, its the cast that makes the show so engrossing. Too bad Sela Ward was wasted.

7. Project Runway
Is on twice a year now! Spring and Fall Fashion Week! Its like having a dependable crack dealer.

8. American Idol
This was the year I succumbed, but after such a strong start I didn't feel myself caring about any of the finalists. Taylor Hicks is not my idol, and Kellie, Chris, and Elliot aren't either.

9. Gilmore Girls
A bit unwieldy at times, I still never missed an episode. Aside from Paris and Emily, this was the year where everyone acted like an idiot and didn't have my sympathy.

10. Everwood
What can I say? I watched the first season, barely noticed the 2nd and 3rd, then became addicted to the swan song. A beautifully written, acted, and shot show, Everwood had more in common with Felicitythan 7th Heaven. Too bad the key demographics didn't figure that out.

Now that Everwood and West Wing have left us, what will I be watching this year? Well, October brings Veronica and Battlestar back into my life, I'm sure I'll watch the first 2 Losts only to bemoan it until the season finale. I'm excited about both Studio 60 and 30 Rock, and I plan on giving Jericho three weeks to prove its extended worth to me. Ugly Betty is getting raves, I'll tune into Brothers & Sisters to see if its the trainwreck its shaping up to be, and The Loop (which had a tiny tiny 8 episode first season) is coming back revamped with more office politics and less wacky roommates. This is a great development. I'll visit Dexter on Showtime, and not just because my friends is working on it, and we'll see if I can't stick with 24.

Now if only Time Warner would give my Universal HD, then I could have Battlestar AND Veronica in High Def...
