July 2, 2006[house of m] 2:09 AMWe broke out the flannel, polished our home depot cards, hopped in the truck and headed off to see Melissa Etheridge at the Greek tonight. She played for almost 3 hours, and spent a combined 30-something minutes of that time preaching the Gospel of Melissa Etheridge, which was equal parts inspriational and tiring (thanks in part to the very loud, very lonely woman behind us). Before the concert we went and had dinner at Figaro. Our patio dining was marked by 4 very special guest appearances, the first three being Gavin Rossdale, Gwen Stefani, and the little baby. All three looked so happy and adorable, a stark contrast to the 4th guest, Crazy Man. He wore a skirt, blue stockings (no shoes), a floppy hat, and some sort of purple lace poncho thing that showed more than you would ever want to see. Crazy Man had apparently gone to Ralph's, purchased a bottle of cheap wine, walked to the patio at Figaro, poured his own wine into one of their glasses, and then began to sit and talk to himself. And sing Beatles songs. The manager and a waiter tried to get him to leave, but it became very evident they weren't talking to the sanest of men. Eventually he agreed to leave, but only after one of the staff tried some of his wine from his glass. He then said, "I have Hep C, but its okay, I don't have a cold or anything." Some days you can mistake LA for New York. Comments
