[ye whirlywind of life] 12:50 AM

Hello Everyone!

Well, it's been 5 weeks and my tenure at filling-in-for-Jason has come to an end, as has my rigid 9 to 5 lifestyle. It's true, that while I still get up early, I'm no longer spending my days confined in a box. The paycheck was good, the experience was good, but man, talk about zapping your creative juices ... between working a full day, hitting the gym, and cooking dinner, I have a new found respect for working mothers.

- Tomorrow Boy and I leave for a mini-vacation in Houston (hello humidity) to celebrate Megan and Andrew's wedding on saturday. To those of you who've followed me all over the internets, you may recall that I lived with Megan (and unofficially Andrew) when I first moved to DC oh so many years ago.

I'm excited for the wedding. It'll be fun to see everyone again, both Texas and DC peeps, and I'll get to show Boy off. My mother is quite excited that we're arriving, even though we may have to introduce him to some people as "my best friend." Which is fine, because he is.

Megan's one of the last of her gaggle of girls to get married, and as such has learned all the wedding horrors to avoid, so we can look forward to a speedy, informal, yet lovely ceremony followed by a nice tidy reception and party afterwards. It should prove quite the relaxing weekend.

- I got my first respsonse back from a publisher this week, which thankfully wasn't an outright rejection. It was a "we love the art, but the story could use some work," which I agree with. No matter how you cut it, 32 pages is either a punishment or a challenge story-wise.

- I finished reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time today, which was its own sort of brilliance, as is Charlie and Lola.

- On Sunday, Boy, Paul, Toby and myself went to the second season sountrack release party for Battlestar Galactica at the Mint ... which was an experience. Imagine taking certain facets of Comicon and then cramming them into a bar. And of course Richard Hatch was there, because Richard Hatch is everywhere Battlestar can be.

Bear McCreary isn't what you'd expect: he's 26 and reminds me a great deal of one of my best friends junior year of high school. Rail thin, long hair slicked back and a goatee. I haven't seen it, but I'm sure Art School Confidential has his archetype in their somewhere.

Half the songs were brilliant, while the other half of the disc pulls heavily from the Pegasus/Resurrection Ship arc, which means one thing: horrible new age guitar (played by Bear's brother). To make matters worse, after the moving performance of Roslin and Adama, vocalist Raya Yarbrough returned to the stage to "serenade" the audience with her reworking of the theme. With lyrics. Lyrics like: "I'm no stragner to danger." The girl can sing, she just can't sing that. Ever again.

They never did wind up playing us the theme, but Toby and I agreed that watching drum guy pound out war music and making the trademark "KLAK!" was worth it all.

Hey Kyle, been awhile since I've written. Let Megan know I said congrats and best of wishes! It'll be hitting the 100s in H-town over the weekend so you don't need to pack much clothes... just a swimsuit and some margarita mix. Have a good trip and drop me a line sometime.

i used to work as a nanny and i loved watching charlie and lola. it's like the sketchy animation of south park but much much prettier.

Don't be lured in. Halfway into Art School Confidential I was in love, it had all the right quirks from Napoleon Dynamite with just enough darkness and ambiguity, so it wasn't too silly. Seemed like somethig you would totally get, being all arty. Then they got confused and turned it all into a different movie and I left angry.

Wait for the DVD, and even then only Netflix.
