[sneak preview: X3 the last stand] 12:44 AM
X3 is like Courntey Love's baby. It's amazing it came out looking human at all after what mom was doing.
Some words: Somehow, X3 works, and its a shame it clocks in so short in running time (104 minutes). In fact, many of the key scenes from the trailer aren't even in the movie, and one wonders what sort of cut lies in a future DVD - it may be a plodding less exciting cut, but the more information the better. The shortness in time makes hurried exposition sound cheesy, even as they're posing very interesting ideas and theories (like the way they're combining comic book mythologies to make a very acceptable and mainstream compromise).
For a lot of people this will also fulfill the dream of a full on powers vs. powers fight; something that was given in a very limited manner in Superman II, but effects have come a long way since then. They're very capable effects, but the whole movie feels like it just needed more time. More running time, more shooting time, more effects time. Fox pushed this movie out like a cadet in boot camp, and its amazing its coherent at all, let alone really damn fun.

Worth the money, but so poorly edited to make it difficult to sink into: the fight scene at Alcatraz? Day to night in 2 minutes? Wha?! And why move an entire bridge when Phoenix could have floated the entire army over herself? And what about that make-up job at the start? Botox! Gah!
But Angel made it all worth it.

I was disappointed that they didn't show Jean with the bird halo when she was the Phoenix although I'd swear I saw pictures of Famke with the bird fire behind her somewhere. And Beast just looked old and ugly instead of like the big teddybear he was in the animated series. Plus everything Silus said. :) And Storm was better this time, but still kind of sucked.
