While Boy and his dad worked on cars yesterday, I took the opporutunity to bask in my 3-day-weekendness and hit up some BBQ's thrown by friends. Going to BBQ's, or any sort of party in LA, makes you question the actual size of our metropolis, since it seems the population is only a 100 or so people. I randomly ran into three people I auditioned this week at work at one party alone. I ate, I drank, I had a delightful time. I spent the majority of my evening sitting next to a giant fire pit, a 10 foot Tiki God prop, and making a repetitive joke about finding a "hatch" in the backyard.

One point of conversation that came up earlier in the day was when a patron at my friend's discussed his recent work trip to Dubai, the very day that I had read the Vanity Fair article on the super-sized new Las Vegas in the Middle East.

Dubai scares me. To me Dubai is that technological marvel that puts mankind back on par with the Romans, and we all know how well that turned out.
