May 21, 2006[beach boys] 8:16 PMI often forget that I live near the ocean, yet this weekend I found myself there twice. The first ocean excursion saw Boy and I travelling down to Laguna Beach to visit a gallery. It seems that during an Audi event Boy had met a lady, who knew a lady, who ran said gallery, and she was quite insistent we come down for the new opening on saturday and hobnob - since she liked my work, it was easy to comply. Marlo, the gallery, and the new art on display all wound up being really, really cool, but Laguna Beach ... do not let MTV fool you, Laguna is a strange hybrid of the Santa Monica Promenade and Georgetown. The gallery itself was attached to a hotel which rested on the beach, so we walked around back and took in a breathtaking sunset, the kind that makes you kick yourself for forgetting the camera. The second jaunt to the beach was much more impromtu on sunday. I had forgotten that a friend of Boy's from Philly was staying with us for the weekend while attending a conference at UCLA, and after it was done on sunday we took her to see the Pacific. There was a strong chance of rain today (it is indeed raining now), so the beach was deserted. Strangely, the water felt rather warm and had I brought a suit I may have actually gone in it. Instead I Huck-Finned my jeans and played "Escape the Wave," which happened to be the very same game the 4 year old next to us was playing. ![]() ![]() The Huck-Finning was somewhat futile, since my pants became increasingly soaked as I attempted to outrun larger and larger waves. I wound up riding home in the back seat, pants-less with the seat heater on. Comments
