Honestly, its the Kirk/Spock thing I'm worried about. You can say what you want about JJ Abrams, but one thing he's proven is that he can make a 2 hour pilot movie. Regardless of how Alias or Lost have since spiraled, you'd be hard-pressed to argue that they didn't have two of the strongest pilots ever made.
Love your blog. I'm not too happy about this movie. A few years ago, the rumor was Harve Bennett was pushing a "Police Academy" style comedy about Starfleet Academy that would re-cast all the major players and by an hysterical romp. If that's what they have in mind, this could be the end of Trek. Also HATE to see those characters played by other people.

My friends tell me that this basically was a Bryan Singer situation - JJ went in and pitched a new take on TREK out of the blue and paramount loved it.
I would imagine the only thing left over from the Bennett scenario is the prequel element, and little else.
