In what I hope will be the last of these postings for a good long while, I'm sad to report one of my friends, and practically Boy's sister, died this morning in a car wreck north of San Francisco.
I've determined that my least favorite (and the most painful) sound in the world is hearing him cry.

You don't really know me and this is being composed at around 6am when I haven't had any sleep, so I apoligise in advance if this is a weird thing to say. But as I've had a couple of people in my life die in the past few years, I wanted to say something more than the usual.
Death is like a horrible chore we know is going to sneak up on us someday and rear it's ugly head. We can't think about it because we know it's going to happen and there's nothing we can do to stop it. Unfortunately when it finally arrives, we, or the people we know and love, are gone, and musing on the inevitability of death does little to change that.
You remember the last time you talked to them, the last time you saw them, the things they helped you through and the things you helped them through, the good and the bad. All you want to do is to go back to that; but you know that's not how it works.
The thing about life is that it goes on, even when you feel like a part of you has died with a person you love. That part may be dark, sharp and raw, but your love for them is very much alive, and if I believe in life after death, my guess is that it's just as alive for them too.
