I've been doing some research for a story I'm working on, and I must say that wikipedia is quite invaluable. Two clicks and your mind starts racing and soon enough you've discovered more in 45 minutes than you have during an entire semester at school.

For example:

A Blue Whale's head is so wide that 50 humans could stand on its tongue. Its heart is close to the size of a small car. A human baby could crawl through a Blue Whale's arteries. During the first 7 months of its life, a baby Blue Whale drinks approximately 400 litres (100 US gallons) of milk every day. Baby Blue Whales gain weight as quickly as 90 kg (200 pounds) every 24 hours. Even at birth, they weigh up to 1350 kg (3,000 lb) - the same as a fully-grown hippopotamus.

Marie, the problem is that LA is large enough that it's hard to summarize your options. If you had an area in mind, it would be easier to select a few local hangouts worth visiting.

If you only had one day, I'd say: hit the Getty (getty.edu). It's pretty touristy, but it's also sure to delight.

well your info was very useful cuz im doing an endangered species project and if you didn't know the baby blue whales and they're moms are endangered. i am putting the human baby thing in my report cuz i found it very interesting. thank you
