[dvd round-up] 6:09 PM

The past few days have allowed me to catch up on some films I've missed, and given me a chance to rewatch a film I had every intention of seeing again in the theatre, but never did.

Wallace & Grommit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit Absolutley deserving of its Oscar, the film is a joy to behold, and the DVD has more bonus features of actual substance than I could've hoped for.

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride More delightful than I anticipated, Bride feels more like a long short film other than a feature, and so I take no issue with Were-Rabbit winning the big award. To the surprise of many, I hold it above Nightmare Before Christmas, and if one is to exlclude the main title theme and songs of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, it holds Danny Elfman's most complete and accomplished score in years.

Mad Hot Ballroom The spicy cousin of the addictive Spellbound, Ballroom can't help but bring a smile to your face and make you wiggle in your seat. Feel Good entertainment at its best.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is so much stronger on its second viewing it startled me. While Azkaban remains its own entity, Fire is by far the strongest the series has to offer. It really is a remarkable accomplishment given the amount of material from the book, but I can only hope that the 7-book series is a 8 or 9 film franchise.
