December 13, 2005[my tentative top ten] 12:48 AMThere are few holes in my movie-watching year, most notably Goodnight and Good Luck and Capote, but otherwise I feel okay in making a tentative top ten list. They run the gamut of "pure cinema" to "fun as hell," but nevertheless, they are my favorites. Who knows how the coming weeks will change them... In alaphabetical order (for now) Batman Begins saved the ailing DC movie franches and resurrect Batman in the best way possible. Katie Holmes be damned. The 40 Year Old Virgin: Half frathouse zinger, half tender romantic comedy. Heights, may be a tad predictable, but decent portraits of love and familial relationships are hard to come by. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. After watching Narnia, you being to realize how great the JK Rowling mythos is, and how much this movie upped the stakes. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was the best surprise I got at the movies this year. A clever and perfectly cast bundle of wit. Me and You and Everyone We Know is a great meditation on surburban life without the apparent pre-requisite murder or kidnapping that most indie films require. Mr. and Mrs. Smith delivered the perfect action comedy (for me, mind you). Pure fun. Sorry, Jennifer Aniston. Serenity was cult wish fulfillment. I honestly have no idea how to objectively look at this movie, so I won't even try. Sky High was fun at first. And cute in memory. And now that it's on dvd I've watched it 5 more times. There's just something innately fun and goofy about it, I can't help but love it. Walk the Line delivered Johnny Cash on screen. While many have labeled it a "by the numbers" biopic, it delivered two performance that were anything but cookie-cutter. Comments
great choices, kyle. i'd pick some of the same movies, but would add millions, which was really cute. Posted by: freddy at December 15, 2005 9:28 PMPost A Comment
