I must say I'm quite confused we regards to my superhero movies right now. I'd written off Fantastic Four and found myself enjoying it, I'd put my faith in Superman Returns and now feel myself getting ansty about it - and not in a good way, and I actually groaned out loud when I heard about Ratner taking over X-Men 3 right before it began shooting.

But X3 seems to actually be shaping up. A friend of mine went and spent some time on the set in Vancouver and said the script (infamously written over a weekend) was actually better than one would expect, and the films delivers in quite a few areas, both delighting and I'm sure outraging fanboys. Much like Spiderman 2, the film doesn't just tell another story, it carries the story forward, with quite a few advances and quite a few deaths.

It's not that I hate Ratner, its that I love X-Men so much, and Ratner is a man on more than one occasion who's claimed that he learned how to direct from DVD commentaries. That's not a man I want touching my mutants, but I was one of the first of my friends to relatively defend him. "This is the man who directed Red Dragon," which everyone nodded and said, "Well, it didn't suck, but it's completely forgettable." And they're right. But he also directed the pilot for Prison Break.

The newly released production photos give me hope. Ben Foster got buff, and while Kelsey Grammar looks like the fifth member of The Darkness, he also looks like Beast.

And that's me being a complete fanboy.

Comments

Ben Foster: As I understand it, you have wings. And this must make putting a shirt on difficult. It's fine if you're like that for the entire film. TIA
