Obsession is too strong a word, so I'll say "somewhat manic curiosity." That curiosity is directed at Flight 29 Down, Discovery Kids/NBC's new saturday morning DeGrassi meets Lost. It lacks the talent and charm of both shows, since it's neither a Canadian or steered by Damon Lindelof, but it can be fun to watch.
Two twinks, an ethnic and aryan beauty, a rugrat, and two bad home perm victims crash on a tropical island en route to something schooly and adventure ensues! It's on my OnDemand, and worth a look if you have idle time.
That kid's hat is so very Joey Jeremiah a la the original Degrassi.

All the drama, plus kicking, screaming and the first hints of puberty! Everything I hated about middle school right there for my viewing pleasure. See if you can find the Paul and Ben look alikes in this season's cast.

I think you are on to something. Maybe it was the unauthorized onboard home-perming that brought down the plane. Those two seem to be in a power play to make up for some past sin.
