[tv round-up] 2:20 PM

House | 2.01 | Acceptance
An awkward start. It's just not a show that can pull off stunt-casting, it works better when unknowns inhabit the roles of the endangered, not "Let's focus on LL Cool J" when Dr. Cameron's B-plot could have been even more engaging. I'm waiting for Sela Ward to have more meat (and so is she).

Supernatural | 1.01 | Pilot
The pilot (which I reviewed over the summer) is still enjoyable on a second go-round, but word is the writing staff is having a hard time doing what I predicted: trying to keep the show fresh.

Gilmore Girls | 6.01 | The New and Improved Lorelai
A B- premiere. I snagged a rough cut screener a week ago, and it's quite amazing how much incidental affects a character dramedy.

Bones | 1.01 | Pilot
Wow, was I let me down. I was looking forward to a female driven procedural with David Bananas, but instead I got a Loreal commercial and nice set design. 30 minutes in we'd lost interest and were discussing the perils of online dating over a bottle of white wine. I glanced over to see some hologram machine being used, and it was all over. I can bend science to CSI levels, that being an unrealistic level of efficiency and certainty, but a three-dimensional holographic rendering? Mr. Fox says the hologram machine tested well with audiences, and it's that moment I groaned, "stupid, Ohio."

OMG For anyone that has a TiVo brand DVR, there is a 60 second clip from the season premier of LOST in the ABC fall preview section (in TiVo Central). For anyone that doesn't have a TiVo brand DVR or anyone that isn't watching LOST, you're missin out. 8)

i rather liked 'supernatural', mainly because the chemistry between jared padalecki and jensen ackles was really really good. they play off each other well and probably for that reason and curiousity of how they follow up with the whole 'missing father' plot will make me want to watch next week.

that episode of 'gilmore girls' was the first i had seen, so if it is an average episode in your books i am really in for something as i have five seasons to catch up on. any suggestions as to what episodes are key?

'house' in my opinion was very strong. hugh laurie continues to astound me with how he handles the character. sela ward was barely used, but i have high hopes.

Seasons 1, 2, and 5 of Gilmore Girls are must-sees, while seasons 3 and 4 are less than stellar. At least with GG you know that every episode has SOME gold, but more often than not 1,2, and 5 produced consistantly amazing episodes.

As for HOUSE, and I've gotten some IMs from my friends about this, HOUSE was fine. It could have been amazing, but I felt that waving LL Cool J in your face just wasn't working for it. HOUSE isn't like ER where Ray Liotta gets an Emmy for Guest Starring. HOUSE is the show where Hugh Laurie should get the Emmy for being a badass.
