Jake Gyllenhaal gets an Oscar nod this year, and it sure as hell won't be for Jarhead. His reading of "I wish I could quit you" alone makes me want to sob.

Really? Have you by chance seen it out in LA? I caught it at a film festival this weekend and, while Jake G is OK, it's Heath Ledger that blew me away. (And I'm not a Heath fan under normal circumstances.) I just couldn't get beyond JG's pretty-boy looks to be a rodeo boy... while Heath was utterly convincing as a ranch hand.

What I'm very impressed with so far is how realistically the two of them are aged in the movie - that shot of Jake looking at Anne Hathaway and the baby in the hospital is very well done - now we know how he's gonna look in 10 years.

By the way, Heath Ledger is consistently fantastic, so I know I'm gonna like him, but I'm willing to be impressed with Jake Gyllenhaal's range so far, and I've only seen the trailer. Totally different guy than all those Holden Caufield types we've seen so far.
