[audi your mind] 6:26 PM

Derek: so for that second picture on your blog
Me: mhmm?
Derek: Stewart suggests the title "road trip to new orleans"
Me: lol
Me: i'm posting that.

In a roundabout way, it makes sense that I'd end up with a gearhead. But Derek's not just a gearhead, he's an Audi-head, so much so that he's a board member for the Audi Club of Southern California. A few times a year the Club plans a group drive, and yesterday was one of those days.

We got up at 7, brewed some coffee, grabbed some road cd's and drove out to Malibu for breakfast on the beach. It was an overcast day, which turned out to be ideal, since once you get out of Hollywood, overcast means "clouds" and not "flat, blank, and gray."

We drove up through the Santa Monica Mountains to the Ventura and Santa Barbara wine country, where we did wine tasting at vineyard and continued up to Ojai, CA for a large lunch at a resort, then headed home at our own pace.

It was a freakishly relaxing and wonderful way to spend a saturday. It's always good to know you can roadtrip with someone.

Ugh, my apartment is a mess.

I broke my mallet learning how to play croquet this morning.

Also:

My Boys at the Toronto film festival report that Pride & Prejudice is a shoo in for best picture, as it is wonderful, and that Brokeback Mountain is "devastating in the best possible ways."

We're both dating Audi drivers! I drove Dan's Audi around the foothills and Denver yesterday while he was at work and fell in love with the car. Is it wrong to date someone for their car?

The number of croquet-related fatalities that happen very year is just tragic.

I'm glad you escaped intact.

that's shoo in for best picture NOMINATION, not best picture. As competition is good.

*croquet photos snagged from numberstumper's flickr, which he is obsessed with.

Ok. I saw the trailer for Brokeback Mountain last night at a screening of The Constant Gardener.

Not one to leave well enough alone, I went to the bookstore this afternoon, bought the last copy of E. Annie Prolux's 'Close Range' (a collection of short stories of which Brokeback Mountain is the last, 30 pages long).

Read it. Its well worth it.
