August 23, 2005[super duper battery trooper] 5:14 AMSo remember how I said that "once you pop the hood of a car, I'm useless?" Well, that still holds true of me, but not for Toby, who graciously helped me out on sunday. After careful scientific testing, it was determined that my battery was, indeed, fucked, so we drove over to AutoZone. I thought it was only 3 blocks away, but apparently we drove through a portal to Russia. It's not that I don't like Russians, it's just that I can never gauge their moods. They always look mad, which is not something I want when dealing with car bits, but beggers can't be choosers, so Toby and I haul my battery to Moscow and have it tested. The high tech battery-testing machine actually says "BAD BATTERY" when it's done with it's cycle. Toby thinks that's the only thing the machine can say, and I'm one to agree, but I was planning on getting a new battery anyways. I wasn't planning on Toby installing it, but he did. It's not really that unusual, Toby is converting his garage into a screening room and single-handedly (well, maybe Paul helps) redoing his kitchen, so he can handle a car battery. I'm of a confused mind when it comes to car-things. From a young age my father instilled in me that I am to never ever touch a car engine, or anything under the hood. On the other hand, being an automechanic is a far cry from going to Yale...still, if you pop the hood of a car it might as well be the Arc of Covenant. I'll brace myself, close my eyes, and wait for the spirits to kill all the nazis and then go back in the box. There were Nazis in my garage (to my knowledge) and no spirts, just Toby getting his Grrr on and breaking the sacred barrier of civilians touching car-stuff. It was quite a sight to see, actually. And now my car works again. Thank you, Toby. Comments
