[LA Law - the rewind] 7:48 PM

FRIDAY

I fetch Johnny from baggage claim at LAX, the world's most retarded airport. A quick bite at Swingers before we go to the Paper Magazine Beautiful People party at the Hotel Roosevelt (Thanks to Marc we were guest-listed). It was the most "LA" party I've yet to go to, which is peculiar because Paper is so very NYC. We spotted Simon Rex and Tom DeLonge of Blink 182. Apparently we missed out on seeing Tori Spelling and Taylor Dane (damn!).

Maybe it's because of my recent copious amounts of OC, but I just kept waiting for a fight to errupt, someone to fall into the pool and see Mischa Barton run out crying with a flask in hand...

We swing by Akbar for a drink, see the Elliot Smith Figure 8 wall, then make our way home.

SATURDAY

Brunch at Joey's leads to a random Luke and Jimsy encounter. We stop by Gallery 1988, followed by shopping at The Grove and along Melrose. Dinner at El Compadre with Jimsy and his blind Friendster date, followed by The Killers at the Wiltern with John, Jimsy, Mike and myself.

I painted a shirt for the concert (above), and one for Johnny, but due to time constraints we weren't able to change into them.

Tegan and Sara opened. They played "Walking with the Ghost" but not "My Number." (They weren't very good).

At first when Brandon Flowers strutted on I thought he was a master showman, but the luster faded somewhat. There was very little audience interaction, and for all intents and purposes it was like watching a concert dvd with a great sound-system. They played well live, and encored with "Jenny was a Friend of Mine" and "All These Things That I've Done."

It was an okay show, still love the music, but makes you appreciate the Scissor Sisters that much more (and re-enforces why in the last 12 months I've seen them 4 times).

SUNDAY

Ben and Kevin are in town and staying at the W in Westwood. We drive down and brunch with them and Paul, then walk around which leads us to an arcade. My mad craving for skee ball kicks in, and Paul and Ben hunger for Dance, Dance Revolution, so we drive into the Valley and find a playland. 18 holes of mini-golf, followed by obsessive skee-balling. I swear the sound of the balls rolling down after inserting the tokens is like a drug to me. Seeing nothing cool in the swag section, I give my tickets to a kid who doesn't even say thanks. I gave the fucker 87 tickets and he just walked away. I was never such a child.

They won't let me into the batting cages because I'm wearing sandals. Communists.

We come home exhausted and layabout watching dvd's until it's dinner time, where we go to met Drew and Jerry at Hamburger Mary's. Some bullshit called "the marine layer" has come in, and it's now cold. WTF? We affectionately refer to our waitress as "Crazy Eyes" (not to her face), and she likes us so much she gives us free drinks in the big big glasses. Lesbians are fun.

The weekend has taken it's toll, and we are exhausted, so we come home and crash out. Monday morning, Johnny wakes up and has to go back to DC, where he will realize that life is more fun over here.

Big thanks to Jamie for loaning California his boyfriend for the weekend!
