[i'd like to buy a vowell] 5:20 PM

I've been going backwards in time, listening to This American Life systematically while I work and before I go to bed. As an off-shoot of this, I'm rereading some passages from my Sedaris books, wanting to purchase some Anne Lamott, getting a renewed crush on Dan Savage and becoming enraptured with Sarah Vowell.

I'm almost through with The Partly Cloudy Patriot, I have Take the Cannoli on order, and Asassination Vacation awaits me on my shelf. There's just something so wonderful about a droll voice of reason pointing out the absurdities in the political system while having the utmost reverence for it.

Four things from the past 20 minutes that make me a big dork from reading Patriot:
1. I got excited when Dan Savage made a "cameo." I love the idea they're friends.
2. That her friend Doug is actually Doug Petrie, writer/producer of Buffy. I wondered why his observations were so funny, and then you find out it's him.
3. She compared Bill Clinton to Jordan Catalono and Al Gore to Brian Krackow.
4. She quotes Sports Night

Ms. Vowell has become a much needed addition to my personal library. Not only does her pristine reasoning point out political absurdities - but she also convinced me that it's okay to love America. Now if you'll excuse me I told General Patton that I would save the last slow dance for him.

The first time I ever heard Sarah Vowell was in a live performance. It was her and David Sedaris sharing a stage, yes, it was absolutely perfect. The last time I heard Sarah's voice was just the other night. I rented the Incredibles, and she was the voice of Violet, which I found so so cool. Okay, I'm a big Dork.

I do hope you watched Sarah's bonus feature on the Incredibles dvd. Who knew that you could make lincoln more endearing by surrounding him with action figures?
