April 7, 2005[for starters] 12:18 PMI fall in love with very odd things, for example: television title sequences. I'm very fickle about TV title sequences, they can make or break a show, and a times can be the only good thing about a show period. Currently advertising trends have made television title sequences an endangered species (ie: Lost's 12 second type treatment), but thankfully there are still shows out there that want to invest 30 seconds (or a minute) to pretty pictures and words. Two of my favorite title houses are Digital Kitchen (Six Feet Under, Sex and the City) and Imaginary Forces (Boomtown, The L Word). I check their sites often in search of eye candy, and the other day at Digital Kitchen I came upon House. Yes, true to form, I sought out a show based soley on it's opening titles. If we overlook Omar Epps' idiotic character, then the show is worthy of it's sequence. House also has the benefit of a wonderfully subdued theme song. Sound familiar? It's a cut-down of "Teardrop" by Massive Attack. I'm shocked The Shield has no real title sequence to speak of, since cable has become the saving grace of titles sequences HBO especially. I can't get tired of Six Feet Under's sequence, the revamped Queer as Folk titles almost make me want to sit through the show, and Deadwood's sequence does what it can to add some visual charm to a visually mucky show. Of all David E. Kelley's shows, Boston Legal has the best opening sequence, but I loathe the generic apple typeface they used. Kudos to Desperate Housewives for originality (and Danny Elfman!). The new Alias titles are absolutely retarded (but the originals weren't that stellar to begin with). Roswell's titles were always better than the show it was introducing (the same with Charmed), and the My So-Called Life credits, much like the show, were ahead of their time. Also, I know the show is gone now, but who in their fucking right mind allowed Blink 182's "I Miss You" to be the themesong for The Mountain? Talk about audio vs. visual... Comments
I have to admit I always Bloop Bloop Bloop my way through the opening credits of Deadwood. I think it is more the music than the images. Six Feet Under, I always reinact the hands sliding apart and the twitching foot. I never really considered opening credits before, but now maybe I'll pay more attention. Posted by: schitzo at April 7, 2005 2:13 PMnot a tv title sequence, but I loved the title sequence for "Delicatessen" Six Feet Under has my absolute favorite titles :) Posted by: Jon. at April 13, 2005 12:19 AMDo you know who made the Deadwood Title Sequence? I've been looking and can't figure it out. Thanks! Posted by: sunshine at August 16, 2006 10:07 AMPost A Comment
