[boldly go] 5:43 AM

I went to the Paramount lot yesterday to eat lunch with my friend Rob (so weird that it's such a short drive from my house, and that I ran into someone else I know while I was there).

Nerd things witnessed:
— The parking lot that doubles for the ocean in The Perfect Storm and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (with the whales!)
— The New York backlot complete with the Angel Investigations facade from season one of Angel
— The dismantled Enterprise set (really cool, even if the show left a bad taste in my mouth)
— The prop fabrication department

The Enterprise sets were surprisingly sturdy. Of course, tho the only things I have to compare them to is the decades-old paint-caked Price Is Right set, the Y&R collapsable sets, and my two year tenure as a member of tech. theater in high school.

Hot things witnessed:
— Chris Gorham (from Popular, Felicity and now Medical Investigation) in the commisary. Seriously so much hotter in person. He now joins the list of "Celebrities In Mundane Places," which also includes Josh Holloway in the parking garage of Target, and Sarah Michelle Gellar in P2 of the Sunset 5.

Today randomly became Ronald D. Moore day. First I scored DS9 season 7 on dvd (one of the finest whole television seasons ever composed, and one of the best final seasons a show has ever attempted — going out completely on top of its game), and secondly I finally popped in the SciFi miniseries remake of Battlestar Galactica.

Um, Battlestar Galactica is kind of fucking awesome. Also, I have the added benefit of 13 series episodes waiting for me once my miniseries viewing is done.

Also pretty awesome (and if you knew how much I loathed westerns you'd be astounded by this) is HBO's Deadwood. Safer and Drew T have been seriously impressed by Galactica for a while now, and Drew Z is a Deadhead — I can't think of three higher recommendations.

And while the promise of a dirty Timothy Olyphant and Alice Krige doesn't do too much for me visually, there's definitely something to be said for a sweaty Jamie Bamber in a spaceship.

Yeah, I'm no fan of westerns, but Deadwood is just *riveting*. Will need to check out Battlestar Galatica though.

K: you missed my embarrassing geek-out about BATTLESTAR GALACTICA at breakfast the other day. Just this past week, I caught up to where the series is now...and it only gets better and better and better!!!!!!

Make that sweaty, BRUISED AND SHIRTLESS Jamie Bamber in a spaceship.

Battlestar Galactica is AWESOME. Jamie Bamber's locker room shots (shirtless) were worth more than a double take. Katie Sackoff is incredible - beautiful, tough as nails, and turning out to be an incredible actress! She will be one of the cast members to watch for as a future Hollywood power hitter.
