February 22, 2005[something a little birdy told me] 8:46 PM![]() Last night I was listening to an interview with Craig Thompson on WNYC's Spinning. He mentioned that Chris Ware had spoken of comics being akin to typography, and his work reflects that. Thompson said he thought his work was more like handwriting, and then went on to mention that he gets very bored with illustration, and he gets very bored with writing, but becomes very satisfied with comics, and how they can bridge a gap for him between an image and a thought. The other day I read an intervew in Nylon with the founder of Option G, who said that he never redrew anything. He draws each idea once so that it retains the freshness of the travel from the brain to the hand to the paper. I enjoy typography that has a handwritten quality, and enjoy tweaking ideas only slightly. Too much precision is overkill, and being sloppy becomes too easily apparent. Such are the thoughts that occupy my brain from time to time. Gamble Everything for Love Ben Lee Comments
Revision is a wonderful thing. Maybe it's the difference between drawing and writing, but first drafts are often just warm-ups to the big show for me. Posted by: chrisafer at February 23, 2005 3:25 PMI think he means in general..im sure if something looks like shit he won't print it. very cool stuff though Posted by: rob at February 23, 2005 5:11 PMPost A Comment
