[children of the revolution] 4:07 PM

One of my least favorite things about Friendster and MySpace is the band-spam, friend requests and emails sent out by musicans trying to attract attention to themselves. It's admirable, and probably a great marketing tool, but I'm one of those people who's pretty discerning about who becomes my "friend," so the band emails get me excited for no reason.

The other day I got an email from him, and I couldn't tell if it was Band-Spam or not. I was hoping for not, so I actually replied. It wasn't band spam, he just threw his URL in there for convience. We started exchanging emails and spoke on IM a few times, I snagged 4 of his songs off itunes, and he invited me to come see a show on thursday (aka: last night).

Not one to trek out to Glendale alone at night in the rain, I sought out Nickster to accompany me (drive), and we made our way to the WhatClub?

The WhatClub? as it turns out, is a former speak-easy, that's now a giant warehouse loft where 4 guys live and put on music nights in the HUGE main room. The place is fucking amazing. An amazing atmosphere, walls lined with windows that look out onto downtown LA, an artist painting on 3 giant canvases adjacent to the stage, and the requisite magical christmas lights hanging from the ceiling. Whatever you're picturing in your head right now, make it cooler by tenfold.

It's hard to recognize people off of the internet sometimes, and infact I almost thought Justin's brother Joe was he, but once he actually walked by I introduced myself.

I'm always so fucking happy when my friends/people I know are actually talented. There's nothing worse than having to feign interest in your friends' work. I'm currrently midway through an amazing script by Paul, witnessed Stewart achieve one of his dreams, and seen Toby's short projected in HD at Sundance in an actual theatre (the local Cinemark). It makes me so happy, and so excited, and it seems as tho a trend is beginning because Justin put on an amazing show. I honestly thought it was better than my Howie Day experience, and some might know how to take that.

The bohemian-ness of it all got to me, and I stayed up til 4 painting (one is done, below, and two are almost finished) with the rain pouring outside. It was a good night.

Sweet man.

Happieness feels so good...even in grey skies, sometimes the light inside can rain on the weather.

"There's nothing worse than having to feign interest in your friends' work."

Ouch, Kyle. Do you know how that sounds?

it sounds just about as awful as it feels.

(and as someone who's asked repeatedly about your work, i don't think you should throw yourself into a category)

I guess that's why you ever accepted my request to be friends on myspace. lol
