[trailer park] 12:01 AM

Let's look into the future shall we?

War Of the Worlds I'm not sure what to expect anymore from Steven Spielberg, and especially Tom Cruise. I don't really like Tom Cruise. I'm not sure when that started, but it's true. I want to see more, it's a pretty cool teaser, hopefully Steven will know how to put a story next to the pretty pictures.

Fantastic Four This is not my comic book. The Thing looks fluffy. 5 people weren't in space, 4 were. Is that post-90's techno grunge? What is this?

Kingdom of Heaven Yawn. I'm so fucking over CGI armies. The only thing I can think of is that Ridlet Scott is teaming with Wolfgang Peterson to make a computer army for every era. Boring.

The Ring Two I saw the first after the hype, and I still enjoyed it, and this trailer has some fun things in it (bathtub!). We'll see how it pans out.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith Weak trailer for what probably will be a fun movie. I hope so. I like Doug Liman, couldn't really care that much about Brad and Angelina. Is the mainstream part of Hollywood in me dying?

The Weather Man Nicholas Cage, you continue to make me not care about you at all.

Miss Congeniality 2 What? These movies confuse me. Shatner's fun, and I hope Candice Bergen pops up if I ever do get around to seeing this. On an airplane.

The New World Sorry, I was taking a nap.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Burton, Depp and Elfman? Um, Hello.

Sin City I'm not a fan of Millar's books, but I do like his art. Props to Rodriguez for such a stong visual sensibility, and that guitar riff at the end makes me so happy. Definitely worth an experimental viewing (and I'll try my best to ignore the fact that I saw Once Upon a Time in Mexico).

Batman Begins I actually kind of hate the batsuit in still photos, but it's going to take work to make me hate this.

Cinderella Man This looks like the biggest piece of boring shit I'll never watch.

Wow, that was a surprisingly bitter post. Looks like I'll have to start making some movies of my own.

Comments

ok, as i was watching the fantastic four trailer, i kept looking at the bottom, right-hand corner for a UPN logo.

while you would watch ms. congeniality 2 on an airplane (as would I) i bet if they showed Kingdom of Heaven or The Weather Man, you'd leave the 'theatre.'

And as far as seeing The New World goes..... i'd rather have an abortion.

I'm very sad that you left out The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe off your list....If you dislike Tom Cruise, you should think about reading Sarah Vowell's The Partly Cloudy Patriot...

What about Happy Endings with Jesse Bradford?

You're dead to me.

heh. I think you should take a tour of all the bad movie people's houses and leave hate mail.

but can you leave Christian Bale my phone number? rrrowr

Subtle.

hmm... I'd watch Siskel & Cummings - wait, which one is dead? That's fine, it'd just be Kyle and a skeleton.
"Don't you agree, Gene?"
*hand in skull, moving mouth*
"Whatever you say Kyle! One bony thumb up!"
"...excellent..."

I would like retract my prior retarded comment.

Um...did that preview show that Dr. Doom was mutated in space along with the Fantastic Four??!!

WTF?

Hmm.

Frank Miller is one of those difficult edge cases in comics and culture. (Nothing like as difficult as Dave Sim, but still.)

He's a brilliant thief (that's not a criticism), one of the people responsible for bringing the aesthetics of manga to the west (most famously with Ronin). He was a key figure in the invigoration of superhero comics in late 1980s, and some of that work is still extraordinary today. (Elektra: Assassin, for example, and the Daredevill graphic novel, both with the amazing art of Bill Sienkiewicz.)

(I waited in line for hours, back then, to get The Dark Knight and Elektra: Assassin signed by Miller and Lynn Varley. And Stray Toasters by Sienkiewicz, come to think of it. I wonder where those comics are now?)

On the other hand, he was all too easily seduced by Hollywood, writing depressingly-awful shit like Robocop 2. His later comics work, including the endless reiterations of Sin City and the almost entirely worthless DK2, have been pretty moribund.

So, the movie: who knows? But it's probably worth a couple of hours finding out...

"the almost entirely worthless DK2" ?? The UK editions must've had glitter or something in them, because it was total shit over here.
